It can to really bug you when you cut the tip off a new caulk tube and had to scrounge for a nail or screw to puncture the seal. Here’s the solution from reader Gerald Flowers. Drill a small hole in the front lower end of the caulk gun, then slide in a 6-in. piece of coat hanger wire with the end bent to clip on the edge of the gun. Just pull it out to pierce the seal, then stick it back in the hole so it’s ready when you need it again. Before you get started, learn how to use a caulk gun.
