Seal off paint or dust particles in your shop with this low-cost roll-down shield.

1. Center and drill 3/16-in. holes in the PVC caps for the eye bolt axles. With a hacksaw, cut one of the corner braces in half to create two metal straps. Assemble the eye bolts, caps, straps, nuts and washers as shown. Snug the nuts against the caps.

2. Screw the assembled caps and braces to the ceiling joists so a corner is created when the poly unrolls.

3. Measure the distance from cap to cap and cut the PVC pipe to fit, then apply poly to the pipe with carpet tape.

4. Unscrew one of the braces, stick the pipe into the caps (a “press fit” is all you need) and reattach the braces. Roll down the poly and apply short lengths of hook-and-loop strips along the edges to help seal the corner. Thanks to Tim Ganther for this tip.

You’ll need the following parts, which are available at hardware stores and home centers:

■ 4-mil poly ($6 for a 10-ft. x 20-ft. sheet)

■ One 1-1/4-in. PVC pipe ($2.50 for 10-ft. length)

■ Four 1-1/4-in. PVC caps ($1 each)

■ Carpet tape ($6)

■ Four 3/16-in. x 3-in. eye bolts, nuts and washers

■ Three 5-in. corner braces ($5)
