I love using solar lights along my driveway, but most of them come with flimsy plastic stakes that are impossible to pound into gravel or clay-packed areas. I replaced the stakes with sections of 3/4- in. copper tubing. By coincidence, the diameter matched the bottom of the light heads. The tubes are much easier to pound into hardpacked soil, and they’re less likely to be kicked over in high-traffic areas. — Conrad Garelik
