WD-40 EZ-REACH™ Can Handle Any Job

This upgrade to a classic DIY product makes a big difference.

I’ve used the original WD-40 product for decades as a multi-use lubricant around the house and garage. It works great to quiet squeaking door hinges and rollers on sliding doors, and to loosen up rusted nuts and bolts. But the biggest issue with the original product was keeping tabs on the red straw-it seemed to disappear at the worst possible moment. WD-40 solved that problem with its Smart Straw product: The straw is permanently attached to the actuator assembly so you never have to search for it. Now, WD-40 has taken a huge leap forward with its WD-40 EZ-REACH product. The new container has both a wide spray nozzle and an 8-in. flexible straw that bends into any shape and keeps that shape so you can deliver WD-40 into tight, hard-to-reach spots.

I put the WD-40 EZ-REACH product to the test around my house and garage. First, I used it to lubricate the door latch linkage buried deep inside the door panel on my minivan. I bent the straw so it would fit around the metal cutouts and pressed the trigger. The flexible straw delivered the WD-40 lubricant exactly where I needed it.

I started at the bottom track rollers to get the hang of it. The bottom roller is tucked up inside the track, and there’s a plastic chain link wiring harness in the way. I threaded the flexible nozzle under the wiring harness and then bent the tip up and toward the roller. Then I gave it a few quick shots. It worked exactly as I’d hoped. Then I lubed the upper track roller. Same thing-lubed exactly where I needed it without overspray. Both doors now slide freely and I didn’t have any cleanup work afterward.

While I was at it, I lubricated the pivots on the rear hatch hydraulic struts. Next, I lubricated the throttle cable on my pressure washer. The bendable straw allowed me to reach the throttle cable without having to remove the air cleaner assembly-which saved a lot of time and hassle. Before leaving the garage, I bent the flexible straw in an arc and lubricated the torsion springs on my garage door. Then I shot every roller and hinge to keep them running smoothly.

Back inside the house (and on a roll!), I used the WD-40 EZ-REACH lubricant on the showerhead’s flexible joint and to free up the bathtub drain linkage. I’ve been putting off a plumbing-valve rebuild because I was worried it was going to be a bear to disassemble. So I used the WD-40 EZ-REACH straw to apply lubricant to the stem and packing nut and the handle retaining screw. After the assembly soaked for a while, the valve came apart with no problem.

Based on what I’ve seen so far, the WD-40 EZ-REACH product does everything the previous WD-40 products did. But now you get the added convenience of a straw that will never get lost, and will flex into any position and deliver the lube exactly where you need it. In my book, it’s a winner.
