Best DIY Stainless Steel Cleaner

Baking soda (AKA sodium bicarbonate) is the Holy Grail of cleaning solutions. Here are three simple and effective ways you can use this household cleaner on grimy stainless cookware, smudged appliances and more.

Ingredients

  • Baking soda;
  • Water.

For light stains

  • Mix baking soda with water to form a soft paste.
  • Spread the mixture on both sides of the pan and rub with a non-abrasive scouring pad.
  • Rinse and repeat if necessary.

To dissolve stubborn stains

  • Pour a solution of about one part baking soda and three parts water directly into a stained skillet or saucepan.
  • Place on the burner and bring to a boil, allowing the liquid to evaporate, leaving a film of baking soda behind.
  • While the pan is still hot, add a little water and rub off the loosened particles.

Immerse the tough stuff

  • Find a large pot or roasting pan and fill with enough water to cover the grimy pan.
  • Again, dissolve one part baking soda with three to four parts water and completely immerse the pan.
  • Bring to a boil and let simmer for 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Pull the pan out of the water and scrub off any leftover food deposits
