Buying Log Furniture

When furnishing a cabin, the natural tendency is to go, well, natural! Luckily, there is a lot of beautiful log furniture for you to consider for your ideal wood-on-wood combinations.

Each wood type has its own characteristics. Pine is knotty and traditional, while white cedar is known for its solidness, scent and beauty. Much of it is made in the U.S. by skilled craftspeople, which means prices tend to be higher than bargain pieces you might normally seek for a cabin. However, you’re investing in pieces that will last several lifetimes, are often sustainably harvested or grown, and can be finished to your exact liking.

When log furniture wood is properly treated and finished (unfinished wood will stain and age quickly), it should need little care. A regular light dusting, an occasional wipe-down with a wood cleaner (spray the rag, not the furniture itself, then wipe) and a coat of protective carnauba and beeswax with orange oil will bring out its natural beauty and keep it looking perfectly rustic.
