Wedge the soffit in place
Aluminum soffits are “maintenance free,” they come in a lot of colors and they’re relatively inexpensive to install, but they can be noisy!
Most aluminum soffits fit into an aluminum channel mounted to the house. Sometimes, the channel is wider than the soffits and allows them to move. Add a blustery breeze, and the soffits outside your bedroom may have you longing for those restful nights when you had a colicky newborn’s cradle parked next to your bed.
The solution may be as simple as a package of screen spline and a cheap plastic putty knife. The first step is to find the offending soffits. Set up a ladder near the area in question and tap on the soffits to see which ones rattle.
Next, take a plastic putty knife and insert a length of screen spline in between the soffit and the aluminum channel. The soffits may have been cut too short, so push the screen mold in far enough so it can’t be seen from the ground but not so far that it slides past the end of the soffit. The final step: a good night’s sleep.
