Dog toys can be surprisingly expensive. But if you have basic sewing skills, you can easily create DIY dog toys from old clothing. Denim in particular is ideal for making tough, durable toys. And because the fabric has your scent on it, the toy is sure to become your puppy's favorite.

Tools Required

  • Fabric pins
  • Iron
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine

Materials Required

  • 4-in. x 6-in. pieces of decorative fabric (2)
  • Spool and bobbin of heavy-duty thread; Poly-fill or fabric scraps
  • Toy squeakers (optional)
  • Unwanted jeans or old clothing

Step 1

Cut the Fabric

  • Measure and cut two 12-in. x 5-in. rectangles from the one leg of the jeans.

Pin the Fabric Together

  • Stack the two pieces of fabric, with the sides you want on the exterior of the dog toy facing inward.
  • Using sewing pins, pin the two pieces of fabric together along the long sides and one of the short sides.
